Stavrakidis Christos
Environment Designer
About me
I am Christos Stavrakidis, I was born and currently living in Greece. I have a bachelor in Electrical Engineering and I work as an Indie Game developer and in a professional level I collaborated with Manu Video Game Maker Engine as a Game Designer, Level Designer, Environment Artist, content creator and community support.
I have a fairly satisfactory knowledge of Unreal Engine, which is the Engine I am most familiar with and Manu Video Game Maker, a no code engine, which I was collaborating with.
I do not know any coding language (although I am familiar with Unreal Engine Blueprints) and my primary skill is the Environment Design. My studies were irrelevant with the Environment design, but I am self-taught and my initial interest for the Environment design started after I got introduced to “Gameglobe” which was an action adventure game that let you create game levels with all the basic tools for this. (lights, speakers, animators, game rules based on logic gates etc) After Gameglobe I decided that Environment design is the one I loved and enjoying the most and I spend most of my time practicing.
When I create a Level, I always try to explain all the details in the level and/or include hidden puzzles or messages that would justify the existence of everything in the Level. I seek in the detail and every asset is placed based on a logic result of various event sequence. I usually create the scene in a way that the player have to explore before gaining entry to the next part of the level.
I have a good knowledge of 3D modeling, and I am capable of creating basic 3D models and in some cases more complex or complete sets of low poly models. My knowledge in 3D modeling is mostly gained by spending many hours in practicing and help over the internet and what was once a huge obstacle for me (creating a 3D asset), is now something I really love spending time and enjoying a lot. This is how my free CC0 library is born, and I decided to share it with the internet and help and inspire other developers. My free CC0 assets store is under construction.
Collaborating with Manu
My collaboration with the Manu video game Engine started after getting the 1st place in the Manu Game Jam. My winning level “The Curse” ranked 1st and shortly after I got an offer to collaborate with Manu (since August 2021).
My role in Manu was a Game and Level designer, Environment design, community support and content creator.
While collaborating with Manu Video game Engine I have contributed in the creation of many new demo levels and various educational tutorials. I had a crucial role in founding bugs in the development versions of the engine and I helped locating and isolating them so to be easier for the development team to fix them in the later versions of the Engine. I also gathered and edited/mixed, almost the integrity of the Sounds and music files, created the SFX and Music collection. I had many fresh and new ideas in the demo games and I had invented various gameplay mechanisms that was “impossible” to create at that time with current engine versions. (As for example : GUI with score, 3D Compass, basic NPC path) Many times I helped the community with guidance about specific features and technical issues, and in some cases I helped them with their projects, either by providing guidance or ready to use assets and features.
Collaborating with Manu was my 1st experience in a professional level and taught me a lot about working in game development as a team.
